This is a good knife. It is well-weighted and can be used with precision on detailed tasks in the kitchen. It is sharp out of the box, as to be expected and certainly is a handsome addition to my collection. My sense is perhaps that there are cheaper paring knives that could do a similar job, but overall I'm quite happy, if not blown away by the Kai Shun.

Don't buy a Kai Shun unless you want to be seduced! Exquisite in form and function, this knife exudes the magic to beguile. Lovingly fashioned from whisper thin layers of the finest damask steel the blame caresses where lesser knives merely cut. Inspired by the the legendary Samurai sword: perfected by the craftsmen of old Japan, 32 layers of damask steel are honed into a convex cut producing not only a sharpness second to none, but a pice of shimmering art which gives each blade a unique identity. Expensive? Yes. Luxury? Yes. Priceless? Absolutely. So don't buy a Kai Shun unless you are ready for a heady affair. And when you do succumb, don't tell another soul -- it"ll be our secret.
