How do I choose the best chopping board?

First, choose your preferred material. You can choose a wooden or a plastic chopping board. Chopping boards made from other materials, like stone or glass, are not suitable for cutting. However, they are great as serving boards! Which material should you choose?

Plastic chopping boards

The main advantage of plastic chopping boards is that they are usually dishwasher safe, making them easy to keep clean. In professional kitchens, colour-coded cutting boards are also essential for maintaining good hygiene. By assigning a specific colour to each food group, you can help prevent cross-contamination between ingredients such as meat, fish and vegetables.

Plastic cutting boards are generally less durable than wooden ones, and deep scratches can be difficult to repair. It is therefore important to replace them in good time, so loose plastic particles do not end up in your food. View all our plastic chopping boards here.

Wooden chopping boards

If you invest in a great wooden chopping board, you will enjoy it for years! Wooden chopping boards will last a long time, and cutting on wood is gentle on your kitchen knives. So if you've invested in quality knives, a wooden cutting board is the perfect choice. Wood does require a bit more maintenance than plastic. It is not dishwasher safe, so you always have to wash your wooden cutting board by hand. In addition, you should regularly apply a coat of mineral oil, so the wood doesn't dry out. Bamboo chopping boards

Bamboo is an excellent material for a chopping board. It absorbs less moisture than many types of wood, making it less prone to warping and cracking. Bamboo is also a sustainable choice because it grows extremely quickly and can be harvested again within a relatively short time. Bamboo cutting boards are sturdy, lightweight and have a distinctive appearance. As bamboo naturally grows in round stems, the boards are made from small strips that are glued together, creating their characteristic pattern. The same care guidelines apply as with wooden cutting boards. Clean the board regularly and treat it with oil from time to time to keep it in excellent condition. Serving boards

You can use a serving board to serve your food in style. For example, use a serving board for a cheese platter or a table full of tapas. You can use a wooden serving board as a chopping board too, but don't attempt this with serving boards made from stone or glass. It would damage your kitchen knives.
