Fiskars
Fiskars is a Finnish brand, founded in 1649. The orange colour is a recurring element that also features in most of the Fiskars axes. The fact that Fiskars as a brand is ancient, does not mean that they do not innovate. On the contrary! Where axes of competitors still look antique, Fiskars has chosen modern materials and techniques.
Top-10
Fiskars: axes with composite handles
You can recognise Fiskars axes by their orange handles. They're made from composite rather than wood, and that's no cost-cutting measure: they almost never break, withstand moisture and weigh less than hickory. This page also features garden tools, scissors and cookware from the same brand.
- The X series is the main range. 26 axes with model numbers that increase with size: X5 for your backpack, X14 as a hand axe, X24 as a felling axe, and X28 and above for splitting firewood.
- Norden is the wooden range. Seven models with hickory handles and narrower heads, for those who want a classic feel rather than composite.
- Splitting axes form the largest group. 22 of the 41 axes are splitting axes. That explains why the X28 and X36 top the sales list: they're for firewood.
- The prices are close together. There's less difference between the smallest hand axe and the largest
splitting axe than you might expect.
The X14 and X13 are the two best-sellers: the first as an all-round hand axe, the second as a lightweight option for carrying with you.
Plastic handles
Almost all Fiskars axes are equipped with a plastic handle. This fibreglass reinforced plastic is called FiberComp by Fiskars. The axe head is integrated in the handle and will never become loose. Also, breaking of the handle is a thing of the past. Fiskars axes come with a 25-year warranty.
PTFE coated axe head
The axe heads of Fiskars axes have a PTFE coating. This smooth material, known from the non-stick frying pans, ensures that the head does not become immovably clamped in the wood. You can always loosen the axe. And on top of all these benefits, Fiskars axes are quite affordable, too.
The look and feel of the Fiskars axes
Fiskars makes a distinction between axes for heavy-duty use and axes for the lighter tasks. The axes for the lighter tasks are enhanced with a completely black axe head and are mostly great when making kindling and small logs. The axes for the more demanding tasks are enhanced with a silver-coloured cutting edge that masks traces of use. The plastic sheath of the heavy-duty axes is orange to make sure it stands out, making it almost impossible to lose it.
Fiskars Norden collection
The Fiskars Norden collection demonstrates how traditional and modern can easily be combined. This collection is inspired by the Scandinavian tradition of the production of axes. The Norden collection is comprised of 2 hand axes (N7 and N10) and 1 splitting axe (N12). The axes are made in Finland and each axe is individually checked for quality. As such you will always end up with a top-quality product.
