Reasons to choose Hults Bruk products

Hults Bruk has been making axes since 1697. Over time, the design of their axes has been continuously refined. The head, edge, handle and balance are tailored to suit the work for which the axe is intended. As a result, you can rely on an axe that feels good in the hand, chops effectively and lasts for years. The wooden handles feel comfortable in the hand, and the sturdy leather sheaths protect the sharp edge during transport and storage. If the handle wears out or breaks, Hults Bruk offers replacement handles to get your axe ready for years of use. Hults Bruk has a suitable axe for every activity: from powerful splitting axes for large logs to felling axes for forestry work and compact bushcraft axes for camp activities.

Hults Bruk product types

Hults Bruk hand axes

Hand axes are compact and easy to carry in your backpack, car or camping gear. They are ideal for making kindling and for small chopping tasks.

Hults Bruk forest axes

Forest axes offer more reach and impact than hand axes. You use them for pruning work, clearing branches and felling smaller trees.

Hults Bruk splitting axes

Splitting axes are made for splitting wood. The heavier, wedge-shaped head drives the wood apart efficiently, ideal for making firewood.

Hults Bruk carpenter's axes

Carpenter's axes are intended for precise woodworking. The straight edge and straight handle make them suitable for shaping, working and fitting wood.

Materials

Hults Bruk axes have forged heads made from Swedish steel. The handles are made from American hickory, a strong type of wood that absorbs shocks well. Many models are supplied with a leather sheath for safe transport and storage.

History of Hults Bruk

Hults Bruk was founded in 1697 by Dutchman Jacob Reenstierna. The location was well chosen: deep in a valley by Ågelsjön, close to running water, forests and six waterfalls. There was water power for the hammers and enough charcoal for the forge.

In the first centuries, Hults Bruk mainly made nails, iron bars, chains, anchors, and later also hand tools. Under owner Brigitta Wallrave, production continued to grow and axes and spades were also made. From 1886 onwards, Gunnar Ekelund increasingly chose axes as a specialism. He studied production methods in England, Belgium and the United States, among other places, after which Hults Bruk began forging axes according to American methods. That foundation is still used today.

In the 1930s, attempts were made to further mechanise production, but the quality proved to be best when the axes were hand-forged. That craftsmanship still lies at the heart of Hults Bruk.
